Weaving Boot Camp Materials List

PinShareEmail

Once a year I run the Weaving Boot Camp course in February.

Boot Camp is perfect for absolute beginner rigid heddle weavers, or those who feel they need more confidence in using their loom.

The scarf project included was designed especially for beginners, undertaking my Boot Camp Course. It is a great project for “little loom” weavers and is light on the total yarn requirements.

There is a member group where you can share your work, troubleshoot and discuss your project! Scroll to the bottom to find out more about Boot Camp.

Although Boot Camp enrolments don’t actually open until the beginning of February, this list is a preview at the materials required to give you a head start.

What you need:

  • Rigid heddle loom 10” weaving width or wider (perfect for the Sampleit weaver)
  • 1 x 7.5 dent heddle
  • 4 stick shuttles longer than the width of the project (or you can improvise by making your own stick shuttles or using yarn butterflies.
  • Reed and threading hook
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and self healing mat
  • Tapestry needle
  • Measuring tape

YARN REQUIREMENTS

Warp-

Light worsted/dk (Australian 8ply) super wash wool or non superwash wool, 172 yards total. I used one solid colour (cream) for the warp.

For wefts I used Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury wool in the colours Bubblegum, Cream, Sunflower and Moonflower.

If you are making an exact replica of my scarf, the amounts used for weft were:

Bubblegum – 20grams, 0.7oz Cream- 40grams, 1.4oz Sunflower – 20grams, 0.7oz Moonflower- 20grams, 0.7oz

*Refer to the Warp calculations PDF in the Boot Camp class for all of the calculations you will need for the project.
