I had my first go at making a soap with some add – ins. Up until now I had stuck to my “cheats” castile recipe but thought it was time for something a bit different. It was really no more difficult than making a regular batch.
I’m surprised at the beautiful rich colour the bars have turned just from the addition of honey and ground oats. And it smells as good as it looks, with no artificial additives. I can’t wait until it has cured long enough to use.

The recipe is from The Natural and Handmade Soap Book by Sarah Harper. There are heaps of recipes in here I want to try!
I also have Pure Soap making by Anne- Marie Faiola, which has a big variety of recipes.

Love your soap. I have a storage box under our bed loaded with soap. I made a lot of it with different recipes a couple of years ago and still have a lot on hand. After aging some of it is just fantastic but my records were not good enough to repeat. The online calculators are great to use as well as the soapmaking forum. Lots of knowledgeable folks there willing to help. Where do you find the time to do all these things!? You must be a master time manager.

Inspiring ! I would love to make some soap to go along with hand knit or handwoven gift. Think I will buy the book, thank you.

Great tip, thanks for sharing š

Your soap came out great. I am a long time soap maker. Just wanted to mention that you should make sure to run any soap recipe through a free online calculator. I've run into misprints in books that would have made a dangerous soap as written.

Sue, most soap takes 4-6 weeks to cure. You read my mind, the book is already on my wish list š

Kelly,
Your soap looks good enough to eat! I've never made soap but I have been given some handmade bars as gifts. A wonderful luxury! How long does it take for soap to cure? Maybe you could put the library soap making book on your wish list.

Only 60grams of honey per batch, it only takes a little bit š

Kelly that soap is a lovely colour. I have never used honey but must do one day. There are so many recipes I want to try but we can only use so much soap. LOL!
