Mud pies with worms for dessert anyone?

by Kelly 4 Comments

Here is a fun holiday activity for the children – and the best part is it’s edible!
We got the idea from “God’s Design for Life – The World of Animals” by Debbie and Richard Lawrence (a most excellent set of Christian science books).
First, mix a packet of chocolate instant pudding according to the instructions on the packet. I don’t usually go for this pre – packaged stuff, but it is quick and easy. You could substitute with home made chocolate mousse or similar if you don’t like the packet stuff.
Crush some chocolate cookies (we used Chocolate Ripple biscuits).
Place some of the cookie crumbs in the bottom of a clear plastic or glass cup. On top of this, place a gummy worm so that it sits up a little.
Spoon the pudding mix in dollops and add another gummy worm if you want. Sprinkle a thick layer of cookie crumbs on top.
Refrigerate until set, then watch them disappear into waiting mouths!

Spiral dyed circle skirt

by Kelly 5 Comments

A new item in my Etsy shop! I made this full circle skirt from cotton lawn, then dyed a spiral with deep magenta and sky blue. The result is a beautiful berry swirl!

It’s so good for twirling! I’ll be making more of these – they are so pretty and drape gorgeously.
SOLD – Thank you Lesley!
Don’t forget the book giveaway ends tomorrow!

I may disappear for a few days…

by Kelly 2 Comments

My copy finally arrived in the mail today!! Can’t wait to start reading but I have an agonising wait until the children are in bed, it’s no fun trying to read with constant interruptions.

You can read about the author D.M. Cornish here.

In other news, I actually have a job interview on Monday! I’m more than a little apprehensive given that it’s many years since my last interview.

I’ll spare a few minutes sometime tomorrow to come back and draw the giveaway.

My Creative Space

by Kelly 11 Comments

I thought it was about time I made some more gowns and blankets for Bonnie Babes. Unfortunately some dear people will be needing them over the Christmas period. These lovely soft knits were donated to me by Peta.
I must say this is one of the coolest salt resists I’ve done so far. I hand painted blue and purple on cotton in a wavy sort of a pattern then laid on the rock salt. I think this piece needs to be free motion quilted and made into a journal cover.
My darling daughter of 5 years has been desperately waiting for me to turn this redwork into a cushion for her bed ever since she saw me working on it. I might even get to it before Christmas – amazing things can happen! (ie. I’m procrastinating on this one!)
Thanks for visiting me today and don’t forget to check out other Creative Spaces here.
A reminder that my Christmas giveaway ends Saturday!

Care for Creation book review

by Kelly 2 Comments

I was at first a little skeptical when asked to review “Care for Creation” by Christy Baldwin, as I think the whole “environment thing” has been blown way out of proportion and terms like “climate change” or “globalisation” have been misused and misunderstood.
I’m glad to say this book takes a commonsense and, very importantly, a biblical approach to environmental care and every day living. Christy writes about caring for God’s creation – reminding us that the world is not ours to own.
The well illustrated book is a common sense guide for children (and perhaps parents?) and introduces ways to make a difference each day. Every page includes a bible reference. At the end of the book are suggested activities and discussion questions.
Christy is a stay at home Mum from Ohio. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Special Education.
You can also win a copy of the book here for a limited time.
Don’t forget to enter my giveaway this week!
