needle felting

Busy, making

by Kelly 3 Comments

I’ve started on the felt play mat for an upcoming birthday. I hand dyed the wool felt and it came up a bit blotchy, but doesn’t really matter seeing as it’s grass.
I’m not sure what else I’ll add in at this point, I tried some trees but they looked silly. Some mushrooms may be my next attempt.

Needle felting a nest for Mother duck and her ducklings (also in progress, nearly finished).

I’ve also turned some of our screen prints into cushions and bags.

I love the way my hobo style bags came out so I’ll probably sew more in this design.

More updates to come, and if you’re interested in a tutorial or how to for how to make the play mat, just let me know šŸ™‚

What I’ve been up to…..

by Kelly 3 Comments

Apart from lamenting my washing machine situation (I have to wait a week just to get someone here to look at it!) I’ve been fitting in a bit of crafty time (in between being stuck in the laundry handwashing). Above is a needle felted lady, my second attempt at needle felting. Very enjoyable.

Also on the needle felting front, a wee bundled baby for one of my baby girls. This little one was also the cause of my first needle felting related injury in the form of a stabbed thumb. Ouch!
I hope you’re not tired of the Miss Madlines yet, because I’m obviously not! This little one is for a cute, cute niece of mine, about 18 months old.

No one misses out in this house. Blog readers, meet Rosy – Rosy meet blog readers. She is one of my girl’s constant companion, so I made them matching dresses with the leftovers from Corrine’s fabric.
Happy Saturday to you all, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing!

Wow! Lucky me!

I love to get beautiful surprises in the mail, so I was thrilled to get a parcel from Marie from my second favourite country, New Zealand (Australia is my first pick of course!) I had mentioned to her that I’m interested in learning needle felting and she offered to send me some wool samples.
Her samples are extremely generous and will see me off to a very good start!

She also sent this cute little bird that she needle felted. There was an audible gasp from 2 year old daughter when she spied this, wool being her toy of preference.

Marie even included a hand written card with a picture of one of her lovely needle felted maidens. What a kind and generous soul! Have a look at her wonderful Etsy shop, there is a lot to love in there!
