Have you been wondering about my Online Weaving School? Maybe you have visited already but feel unsure about where to get started? Today I am going to address some of my most frequently asked questions!
What is your Online Weaving School?
It’s a place I’ve created online for weavers of all different levels and abilities to learn. Because the lessons are all online, the student can learn at their own pace, in their own time, and in the comfort of their own home.
How do I take a class?
You need to be registered and have an account to purchase classes. This is a simple process using your email and a password. Making an account does not cost you anything.
You can look through the classes available, read a little about them and view the curriculum. Many of my classes are available as single purchase classes and there are quite a few free classes you can take as well.
What is a membership?
You can also purchase a membership. This gives you access to a library of classes and projects. Some of these classes are only available to members. Members are invited to join a private member’s group where we share photos, discussions and ideas. There are also occasional giveaways and live videos just for members.

Member’s also have access to Member’s Only Classes. There are currently 16 of these classes available that are not available to the public.
You have access to the library of classes while your membership is active. If your membership payments lapse or you cancel, you will no longer have access to the classes.
What is the difference between a monthly and yearly membership?
If you want to purchase a membership, you have several choices. Currently available are the Premium Membership, the 6 month membership and the monthly membership.
What classes are included in a membership?
Currently, all classes are included.

Premium members also enjoy early access to all new classes as I make and upload them. This means that Premium members can access this new content weeks and sometimes months before it’s actual release.
Are memberships always open?
Yes, you can purchase a membership at anytime.
What is Weaving Boot Camp?
This is a great opportunity for newer rigid heddle weavers, or those who have not yet gained the confidence they desire. The course runs over 4 weeks and is designed to get you going with your loom with step by step instructions and demonstrations. I have had many students tell me that this was the class that solidified weaving for them.
Is Weaving Boot Camp always open?
No. It opens once a year, for a limited time. The best way to keep updated on opening times is through joining my email list.
Are all of your classes for the rigid heddle loom?
Most are, as they are the most in demand. I also have an introductory class for floor loom weaving plus a follow up to this class. There is the Weaving on a Table Loom course. I also have classes for inkle weaving, and plans for more floor/table loom classes and classes that incorporate other fibre art techniques.
Is there a time limit to watching a class?
No. Once you have purchased a class, you have lifetime access and can view at your leisure. You can go back and rewatch as many times as you wish.

Unfortunately not. Due to the prevalence of online course theft, I do not allow downloads of classes. Instead, when you access your classes they are streamed.
How is your Online Weaving School different to your Youtube channel?
Good question! Youtube is where the idea for my weaving school began. Youtube is mostly a short tutorial format and is fairly basic. My Online Weaving School is not just a learning platform, it is also a community. Classes are usually lengthy, with lots of video content as well as printable PDF’s. The general rule is, if you like my Youtube channel, you will love my weaving school!
Any more questions I need to add to this list? Let me know if I’ve missed any and I’ll either answer in the comments or update to include them in this list.
Happy Weaving!

Hi Kelly- I haven’t watched any videos in a while. I’m trying to access a few classes, but can’t open the videos. I’m not sure if there’s a problem or I’m doing something wrong. Can you tell me what I need to do?
Thanks

I just noticed a charge of 85.60 on my discover card for 11/27/2023. I did purchase a 6 month membership [I think] 2 years ago but have not purchased since. [Can’t afford it]. I hope you did not put me on auto renewal & have been charging me every 6 months ever since then!!! I will be reporting to discover that I only made 1 purchase from you. I will ask them to check my records to see if there are more unauthorized purchases. Please remove me from your list! Thank you, Jane
Kelly
Jane, I’ve emailed you.

I have the Shadow Weave on a rigid heddle loom course. The weaving combinations PDF for method one (string heddles and pick up stick) does not seem to be available for the project. I can find it for the sampler but not the project. Can you help please? Thank you
Kelly
Hi Sally,
I can see the file for the method one weaving sequence in the class.
It’s under the topic “The Project”.
The file name is “The Project, Weaving Sequences, printable PDF”.
Let me know if you’re still having trouble finding it 😊
Sally Houghton
Thanks Kelly, yes I see it now I wasn’t scrolling down far enough so could only see method one. I have just finished threading for my sampler so will see how that goes!
Kelly
Great! 😀

Is it possible to weave pinwheels on a rigid heddle loom with groups of 5? All the references I’ve seen us groups of 4.
Kelly
Not sure what you mean by “groups”? Threading repeats?

You had posted a video on what to do if your ashford table loom beater is rubbing. For the life of me, I cannot find it. Please help!

Hi Kelly
I just signed up for the course on reading drsftx and I decided to print the pdfs off first but I can’t see how to do that. Can you help me please?

Kelly
At the bottom left of the file screen you should see the text “download” with some other text that is the file name. Click on the file name to download, then you can print from there 😊
Buyer
Kelly, I was wrong, and should have looked at my 90 percent Midnight Shawl print out. It´s still printing with text running off the page. Can you help? The only way I can contact you through Etsy is by leaving you a review. As I´m sure the pattern is just fine, I don´t want to write something that indicated that the pdf fails to print correctly.
Can you help? Thank you.
Kelly
Hi! Sorry you’re having issues with printing. I have sent you an email using the email you commented with here – please do let me know if that email does not reach you 😊
Buyer
Hi, Kelly — I ordered your Midnight Shawl through Etsy, but the text ran off the page when I printed it. I was able to get it to print correctly by setting the printed area to 90 per cent. The Anastasia Shawl, purchased at the same time, printed correctly. Etsy´s contact form won´t allow me to email you without demanding a resolution I don´t want, since I am actually satisfied with the purchase, but I though you should know that I did have an issue with the Midnight Shawl pdf.
Please don´t add me to any mailing lists; this is just meant to be helpfully informative for you, as a seller.

Hello Kelly
I have been referring back and forth to all your generous information about doubleweave but there is one simple (and probably silly) question I can’t answer.
I want to weave a bunch of kitchen cloths with two heddles, aiming at TEXTURE, and wish to use a stash of cotton that yields a basic wpi 20.
Which number heddles do I use? 2×5? 2×10?
Is there any difference by the way in your choice of heddles according to what you are using your doubleweave for?
Thank you
Elsa
Kelly
Hi Elsa,
You can use extra heddles to either increase your sett or increase patterning possibilities. It sounds like you want to weave a pattern to achieve texture, rather than increase your sett.
I would be using the 10 dent heddles for 20 wpi.
I hope that answers your questions!
Elsa Flego
Thank you again!
Kassia
Hi Kelly! I am transitioning from a rigid heddle loom to a Glimakra Julia 8 shaft countermarche loom. Would your introduction to floor loom weaving course be suitable for someone working with a countermarche loom for the first time? Thank you!
Kelly
Hi Kassia,
Yes and no. My floor loom class is filmed on my sinking shed Louet David 8 shaft. It would help you with the basics of getting familiar with a floor loom, but there would obviously be differences for your countermarch – in particular the tie up and treadle set up. Also, my class does not cover sectional beaming, if your loom has one.
I do offer a 30 day money back guarantee on all classes, so if you purchased the class and found that it was not helpful, that would be an option you could take up 😊
Diana Devenish
Hi Kelly
I am interested in signing up for a course. I live in the Uk. Can you confirm which currency I would be charged in?
Many thanks
Diana
Kelly
Hi Diana,
All pricing at the weaving school is in US dollars 😊

Hi, Kelly. I’ve been trying to reset my password for a week. Can you let me know what the customer service email address is for your website host so I can contact them to find out why I’m not getting a reset email?
Kelly
Hi Polly,
Are you trying to reset the password for your Teachable or your WordPress account?
Angela
Hi Kelly,
I am new to weaving and am very interested in signing up for your classes.
I noticed your classes are made up of several short videos, which I love, but I am wondering if there is an auto play option. So will the next video in the class automatically play, or do I have to manually start each video?
Thanks,
Angela
Kelly
Hi Angela,
Thank you for your interest! The next video will automatically play at the completion of the one you are currently viewing 😊

Hello Kelly, I am considering taking the rigid heddle beginner’ course. The yarn needed for the project is not mentioned in the materials list. Can you please advice?
Kr, Kim
Kelly
Hi Kim,
The project uses Sugar n Cream yarn, the colours and amounts are listed in the class 😊

Hi Kelly, I currently have the Gold membership. My renewal is in August. If I want to change to the 6 month membership, what is the proper procedure so that when the renewal date arrives, the credit card will be charged for the 6 month membership?
Kelly
Hi Linda,
You would need to wait until close to the expiry of your Gold membership and cancel before it renews, then purchase the 6 month membership as a new purchase. I hope that makes sense?
Anna
Hi Kelly,
I’m new to heddle weaving and I’m starting my first projects and need help trouble shooting problems. Does membership allow me to show the weaving mistakes and get your advice? Which level of membership should I join?
Kelly
Hi Anna,
I usually prefer to help students with projects of mine that they are doing – that way I know how to help them because I designed it. So, anytime you need help with my classes or patterns I am there to help.
I’m happy to offer whatever advice I can though, you can email me with pictures and details and I’ll do my best.
Loretta Ziolkowski
Hi Kelly,
Hope this finds you and your family well. I was not sure how to get a question to you regarding one of your patterns. I am currently working on the Garden Path Scarf purchased on Etsy. I wanted to say that the directions are wonderful! The pictures are so clear and work well with the narrative and found this a beautiful, easy pattern to work. Thank you for such great instructions.
I just have two questions – being new I wasn’t sure if I am doing this correctly.
1. When you run out of yarn, should I try to time the placement of the ending of the yarn in one of the three balanced weave rows?
2. The finished length of the project is 90 inches which includes the fridges. How long is the actual scarf and the fridges? I just could not seem to locate that measurement as I work on the scarf to ensure I’m leaving enough space for the fridge.
I appreciate the extra help.
Loretta
Kelly
Hi Loretta,
Great questions!
1. Yes, it is a very good idea to situate your tail in a plain weave row if you can, that will ensure it’s held firmly.
2. The length of the actual scarf is 72″, so each end is 9″ for fringe (prior to twisting). If you twist, the fringes will be a bit shorter.

I’m thinking of purchasing an Ashford Inkle Loom. I’m a musician and would like to make guitar straps. I know nothing about weaving. Do you have a course for beginners on inkle loom weaving? Or, is there a different type of loom that better suits making guitar straps.
Kelly
Hi Barb,
An inkle loom is definitely the way to go for guitar straps. I don’t have an actual class (yet!) for inkle weaving, but I do have some resources that will help-

Kelly, I’m thinking about enrolling for a year but I have one question – I’m wondering if I can do it as a firm (with invoice with VAT number) or the only way is as a private person. I haven’t seen the place to add a VAT number.
Kelly
Most people enrol as individuals so I’m not sure of the answer to your question, but I will find out and get back to you 😊
Aga M.
Thank you!
Kelly
Hi Aga,
My apologies for the late update reply!
I’ve been told that yes, you can enrol as a company.
Apparently you should be able to enter your VAT number on the payment page and then your receipt will reflect that VAT charge.
Let me know how it goes, if you have any trouble with it I will try to work out a receipt for you myself.
Michelle Johnson
Hi Kelly. I am taking the Krokbragd mug rug course and wondering if there’s a way to print the pdf files
Thanks
Kelly
Hi Michelle,
There is a little “download” button at the bottom left of the screen, you can click on that and then print.

My new Rigid Heddle 16′ SampleIt is on back order from the Woolery. I am reading up on these books Inventive Weaving on a little Loom by Syne Mitchell Wow what a wealth of information for a new beginner and Weaving made easy Revised & Updated by Liz Gipson. These numbers are so confusioning and math and numbers & I don’t jive very well! Taking your class won’t work for me right now. So how am I going to be able to Weave to learn to weave! I am already frustrated and I haven’t even begun to weave yet. 🙁 This newbie is almost ready to throw in the towel.
Ps, I’m not on FB, Pinterest or Instagram nor to want to be. Been there done that hated it
Kelly
Kim, you don’t actually need to be good with numbers to weave successfully – I rate my own mathematical skills at about a grade 6 level and that is all you need to do this.
I have a free class here that shows you how to use a calculations sheet-

I would like to know if you have a more detailed description of how to make the Moroccan Dream Scarf in your online class. I’d like to know how many colors I need to use, and where to place them in the warp and weft. I am interested in making a neutral color combination of Ashford’s jet black, twilight grey, and bleached white. Would those colors work? Or would they be too dull together? Would using a red be a better choice than the grey?
Thank you
Kelly
Hi Stefanie, Have you seen the Youtube video that accompanies the pattern?-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91PI5H8vq_0&t=420s
The colour choices are optional, I’ve made 2 versions – one with multiple colours and one with just two colours. Both of them are lovely.
One tip is that if you want to use multiple colours, use them in the warp and then weave with a solid colour weft. Otherwise your pattern won’t stand out too much.
So, for example, you could use your grey and white (even with the occasional shot of the red!) in the warp and the jet black for weft.
Or you could use grey, white and black in the warp and red as weft.
There are lots of different options 😊
Theresa
Hi Kelly,
I have a 16 inch sampleit. I would love to learn how to double weave a baby blanket. Can your pdf be modified to do on a 16 inch? Thank you.
Theresa
Kelly
Yes Theresa, you can modify the pattern for your loom. You just need to make sure you have 2 heddles of the same size to start with.
Sandie
I was wondering you you pay for the year and it is near your renewal time to pay again or if you want to not renew do you notify me it is time to pay again Does it automatically charges me? Where do you get coupon to join the application has listed
Kelly
When your yearly membership is almost ready for renewal, you receive an email to let you know. If you don’t want to continue, you can cancel.
Kelly
I’m not sure which coupon you’re referring to?
LUCIA WILSON
Hello. I’m in in the U.S. and am unable to enroll as a Gold Member. No matter what Credit Card I attempt to input there’s a disclaimer in red indicating that the number is not valid. I’ve tied Visa and AMEX. Please advise and thank you.
Kelly
Hi Lucia,
I’m sorry to hear that – I have many US students who have memberships and can make payments. Usually when this happens, it is due to the student’s bank declining the transaction. One way to get around this is to contact your bank in order to approve the payment personally.
Another option is that I can invoice you through Paypal and then manually enrol you in a membership.
Let me know what suits you best 😉
Monique Little
Kelly, I am having the same issue. Can I do Paypal and have you manually enroll me?
Holly Bargeron
Kelly pls help! When I am warping my RHL, the further I go the more a lot of the threads that seemed to have good tension start drooping. If I go to tighten one of the ‘stripes’, i get 4” or so in drooped yarn. If my knots were letting go I would understand but why do I have all that extra yarn when I tighten up the tension? And how to avoid this ? Frustrating!
Kelly
It is much harder to get a good and even tension when warping with cotton or other rigid threads without elasticity. It is very common, especially with the down shed, to have looser threads. The best advice I can give is to get the tension as good as you possibly can to try to avoid these problems later. Make sure your warp is packed properly and experiment with different packing options eg. heavy craft paper from a roll, a bamboo blind, warping separator sticks etc.
I also have a video that gives tips that you may be able to apply to your situation-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YERj4AdWe20&t=25s
Chris
do you have printable instructions on how to bind off in the one video where there is no fringe. thank you
Kelly
Hi Chris, I’m not sure which video or project you’re referring to?
Gina White
Hi Kelly –
I have a question regarding reeds for my table loom. I have a Rassmussen table loom. It was gifted to me. Super grateful – it’s beautiful. With all this time on my hands, I thought I would give it a try. I came with an 8 dent reed. I have a pattern that calls for a 12 dent reed. Is there a way to adapt the threading to use the 8 dent reed or do I need to buy a 12 dent reed?
I should note that the company that made the loom no longer exists. So I would need to find a reed from another company that fits or could be adapted to fit. The good news is that the reed holder is somewhat adjustable. I am pretty sure the Ashford reeds would work with a little help as they are just slightly taller and just a little shorter in length.. So I think with a little shim on each side it should fit.
The question is is it necessary to purchase another reed.
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
Gina
Kelly
Hi Gina,
You don’t need to buy a new reed. You can sley the reed alternating between 1 and 2 threads in each dent to achieve a sett of 12. So, when sleying the reed thread 1, then 2, then 1, then 2 the whole way across.
Also, regarding your question about sizes of reeds – it can be difficult to get the correct size for looms no longer produced, but there are people who will custom make them to your required dimensions. An expensive exercise, but something to keep in mind if you do decide you want another reed sometime.
Rachel Taylor
Help a knitter out. Do you have a simple chart matching Colton size to wool ply please. Also is 8/2 a 4ply for the wrap?
Kelly
8/2 is quite a thin weaving yarn that comes on a cone. This class explains what all the numbers mean and included 2 yarn charts. One of the yarn charts is a conversion chart for knitters – https://kelly-casanova-weaving-lessons.teachable.com/p/what-do-all-the-numbers-mean-and-how-do-they-apply-to-a-rigid-heddle-loom/?preview=logged_out
Sara
Do you have any videos on using a countermarch loom. I have a jack loom and now new to me countermarch
Kelly
I’m sorry, I don’t. I don’t have, nor have I used a countermarch, so am not really qualified to give information on it.
Cindy
I am about to purchase an Ashford table loom. I am trying to decide between the 24” and the 32”. Can you share any pros and cons of each size or do you have a suggestion on which size to choose? I am looking forward to your tablet loom course.
Kelly
My first table loom was the 32″. It’s great having the extra width to weave on, but you do need the space – either a sturdy table or the stand if you buy that. Remember that 32″ means weaving space – the actual loom frame is bigger than that, so check the dimensions and make sure you can fit it somewhere 😊 Also, it is obviously more expensive than the 24″, so that is a consideration.
I enjoyed weaving baby blankets on my 32″
But… if you don’t think you want to be weaving wider items, the 24″ would be an excellent choice. Still a good width for weaving lots of things, more compact and slightly more affordable.

Found it my tech credibility is taking a hit this month Senior Moments!!

Deborah, there should be a “download” button if you scroll to the bottom of the lesson and look to the left of the screen, just before the comments section. I have taken a screenshot to show you and will email it to you.

Hi Kelly
Just renewed for another annual membership. I don’t seem to find classes from the last annual membership. Is it there and I’m just missing?
Kelly
Hi Penny,
Your class list should be exactly the same as before – is there anything in particular that you thought might be missing?
Leanne
Any recommendations for achieving a wide open shed when weaving with alpaca that is very sticky? I have already warped the loom with a 12 dent reed. Using a pick up stick to help with the up shed but the down shed is pretty much non-existent. This poncho is going to take years!
Kelly
Alpaca is very difficult, that is why I tend not to use it!
You can clear the shed each time before you throw the shuttle, using a pick up stick or weaving sword.
I’ve heard some weavers have success with a hairspray or anti static spray to tame the alpaca fibres whilst weaving – I haven’t tried that method myself but it could be worth a shot.
Rachel
Can you please tell me how to print the pdfs from your classes? I can view them but can’t seem to download or print.
Kelly
At the bottom left of each PDF is a download button you can click and then print.
Sometimes if you’re viewing on a device this function won’t be there, it just depends on your device. A desktop is preferable for downloading and printing, if you have access to one.
RKathie McClung
Hello, I am trying to figure out how to get the “across my devices” going on. I have gotten on teachable on my laptop at my desk in a wee office in the back of the house that is not really ideal for my weaving situation if I wish to view a class step in the process of learning it on my loom a the same time. I often use my Kindle Fire to access things. It has capability for things like Craftsy. I hope I can get some tips before I have to research everything myself, basically reinventing the wheel, as it were.
I found teachable on apps for my phone, but then it won’t let me login on my class account. Do I need to log out on my laptop to access it on my phone. Once on my phone, I can project it to the T.V. for the large screen using my apple device.
Waiting and a tiny frustrated to have to be a tech about 98 percent of my life these days LOL.
Bet you too, huh?
I just want to weave.
Very special regards to you for all you do to make this great experience for all of us!
Kelly
Hi Kathie,
I wouldn’t have thought you would need to logout in order to login to the app, you should still be able to login just fine.
To be honest, I’m not a big device person and I don’t own a television. So I’m not terribly helpful when it comes to the technical side of viewing. I know a lot of students do use all different methods to view classes and you do have options. Do you happen to be in the free Facebook group? That would be a great place to ask for advice.
Linda Pace
Hi Kelly, I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your emails and your videos. I have a Mirrix Loom, Little Guy, which I do mostly bead weaving and some fiber/bead weaving mainly making bracelets. I became fascinated by the Rigid Heddle Loom and would like to have one. It will have to wait for awhile as I am finishing off my college cost, plus other costs. I just wanted you to know that I think you do all that you do very well. Pray it won’t be too long before I can start your classes. Blessings, Linda
Kelly
Thanks for your kind words Linda, good luck with your hopes for a rigid heddle loom, I think you would love it!
Marjorie Anderson
Love your blog, and weaving school. I am a homeschool mom, weaver, and spinner too, in New Brunswick Canada. We have dairy cows, sheep, horses and I could go on 🙂 We have to many animals LOL. Love your classes they helped me a lot when I started on my rigid heddle. I now have a 4 harness counterbalance loom. Your teaching is wonderful I’m a visual learner and you do an excellent job. Congratulations on your milestones ! I hope to win so I can learn some more 🙂

I have a couple of questions:
1. I am trying clasped weft with 3 colors for the first time. I have an issue at the middle. The yarn leave a diagonal slant in the middle. I also posted this on You tube Not sure which one will go through . I have a picture. Don;t know how to post. I’ve looked at the YouTube video several time. I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong.
2. If you are a member, do you still pay for the classes.? And, can you change from monthly to yearly at any time?
Thank you. By the way, I really like your teaching videos. They have helped me a lot.
Kelly
Hi Sue,
I did leave a comment on Youtube for you.
As for your second question, if you are a member you have full access to every class except for Three Heddle Adventures and Weaving Boot Camp. Yes, you may change from monthly to yearly at any time, you have to cancel the monthly and then take out a yearly.
I’m glad you like my videos! Let me know if there is anything else you need help with.
