I am really excited to be offering the Herringbone on a Rigid Heddle Loom class!
Not just because herringbone is such an enchanting weave, but also because this class is very unique.
Usually when I release a new class, I focus on a particular technique or means to set up the rigid heddle loom. This presents a problem. I’m always asked how to set up in other ways.
*This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more information.
For example, if I use a single heddle, heddle rod and pick up stick to weave a particular project, students will ask how to weave it with two heddles. And vice versa.
For this class, I decided to spoil students by providing not just one, but three options for setting up the loom to weave herringbone.
This helps to cater for different learning styles and also differing budgets.
Method one uses two heddles, a pick up stick and a heddle rod.
Method two uses one heddle, 2 heddle rods and a pick up stick.
Method three uses three heddles.
Each method provided has step by step video instructions, visual threading charts and written instructions.
Students will complete a classic herringbone scarf as the class project.
To complete this class you will need:
A rigid heddle loom, 10″ or wider
10 dent heddle (number of heddle required depends on your method choice)
Also, depending on your set up choice, you may need:
Pick up stick
Heddle rod/s
Elastic bands
Full yarn requirements will be available upon enrolment.
The class will be available for single purchase, or, if you are a member of the Online Weaving School, this class will be included in your membership. Premium members currently have early access.
Now, for a little fun! As a pre-release celebration, I’m offering two of you the chance to win this class. The winners will be given access to the class upon it’s release shortly.
Here are the entry requirements:
- You will need to be registered with the Online Weaving School. That way, I can enrol the winners in the class.
- In the comments section below, tell me whether you would be most interested in method one, two or three to complete the class.
The winners will be announced at the end of this week.
Please note – if you don’t see your comment posted right away, don’t panic, I have to approve all comments first.
*UPDATE – THIS GIVEAWAY HAS NOW ENDED.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS – ERIN MCGANN AND LYETTE MONGEON
Well, I’m really new to weaving and only have one heddle, so I guess I’d love to learn Option 2. π
Love the pattern
Hello Kelly
This is such a beautiful pattern. π I would like to learn method 1.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this.
Ohhh, I canβt say which is my favorite technique. I am looking forward to analyzing and comparing between the three warping methods in hopes of understanding how to translate other 4 harness patterns to the rigid heddle loom. I am looking forward to going through this new course!
I would like to learn all 3, but if I have to choose 1, Iβd say#3.
Oooooolala! Herringbone on a rigid-heddle loom – very exciting! I would choose option 1 as I have tried pickup sticks and a heddle rod, thanks to your classes and videos. Using a second heddle is a logical next step considering I was gifted a second-heddle kit this past Christmas. So grateful for your classes and shared weaving wisdom. Peace.
Hi Kelly, Thank you for the opportunity to take the class. I would probably use method 2 but would be interested in learning method 1 also.
I think the first method because I don’t have 3 heddles on my loom.
I would like the Method 1.
Your tutorials are great!
Method 2 would be my choice. Iβm m new to weaving and excited to learn something new.
I’m most interested in method one, but also interested in how to adapt to the different methods so appreciate seeing them all π
I’m interested in method one most, but curious about all! π
I would be most interested in method 1! I have 2 heddles, but I haven’t tried a 2-heddle pattern yet π
I would love to learn method 3! Although I am sure interested in the other methods too.
Thank you!
For now my favourite would be method two because I own only one heddle but I am interested in all three of them.
Method 1! Beautiful pattern!
I would need to try with method #2 as I only have one ten dent heddle . Will be my first try of any thing besides plain weave.
I would choose method 2
As I have only 1 heddle, I would choose method 2
I would love to learn herringbone from you using three rigid heddles on my 25β loom. Iβve learned to use my variable heddle with the same dent configuration to make the third heddle.
I pick #3. I want to try using 3 heddles. Thank you
I would love to learn method #3 Kelly!
Thanks, Cheryl
I need inspiration and would select method 1. Your ideas are always so colourful and I would like to experience your step by step instructions for Herringbone,
I would love to learn how to weave a herringbone scarf! I would be interested in method 2 since I only have one 10 dent heddle. Thank you for your generous offer.
As I have only one heddle then method 2 would be of interest to me please.
Thanks for the opportunity to try and win this class, good luck everyone
Method 2 please
Hi, I would like to try Method 2 please. This pattern is just what I’ve been looking for to
make some sleeves to go with some material I have to make a top.
Method One. Thanks for all your wonderful classes!
Method 2 for sure
Method 1 as I only have 1 heddle but would love to learn the other 2 also
Method 2. I am reasonably new to RHW, using more than 1 heddle blows my mind at the moment!!
I would use method 3 I think I have two heddles but would buy a third for it.
I would like to learn method 2. How fun! Thanks for the opportunity!
I have two heddles each of 12.5 and 7.5 and some sticks probably will need to get some Rods… Ah, Aaron do you have a spare rod.
Three heddles did not know you could do that! I look forward to seeing that done!
Tried two heddles warped it up and failed… Could not get the heddles to move according to my draft. One up and one down then reverse… Nope could only move one heddle out of neutral at a time.
Iβd love to see the 3 heddles in operation ! Should be fun ! π Therefore option 3 please. Thanks Kelly.
Method 1 I thinkβ¦. would be my preference. But I do have the ability to have 3 heddles on my 32β RH so maybe that would be the way to go. Either way thanks so much for the opportunity to win! I just entered into retirement to live my fibre arts dreamsβ¦ so every little bit helps.
Your herringbone is gorgeous.
If I could figure a way to add a third block, I’d chose method 3, but I actually torn between Method 1 and 2…..I guess I’d use Method 2 as I have less practice using two heddles.
Method 3 – I am working on a project now using 2 heddles!
I would be thrilled to learn Method 1. Thank you so much for the opportunity!!
Method 2 please
Iβd like to try method 1. I tried twill with method 2 from another site, and had mixed results. Iβm hopeful I will have more luck with your instructions.
Method 2 for me – I have a cricket loom. I am dying to learn this! Would love to win!
Method 3
I would love to learn this technique! My preference is Method 1.
Method 2
Method one! It seems, to me, to be the least complicated!
I would love the Method two uses one heddle, 2 heddle rods and a pick up stick.
Thank you for doing this for us
Probably Method 1 will be preferred to start. However, I appreciate have all three methods to make it more flexible for the future in case I purchase a different loom.
I would most like to try method #1, as I have not practiced weaving with two heddles as much as I should! I usually like a challenge.
This is going to be an amazing class! I would love to learn to weave herringbone on a rigid heddle loom by using method 2. Thank you for the opportunity.
Method 2 would be my choice. You are such a talented weaver, and I look forward to viewing more of your classes.
Method 2 would be great. Thanks for your extreme generosity!
I’m most interested in the 2 heddle method but, I’m glad all 3 options will be included in the course.
Option 3π₯°
Method 2 would be my choice as I am very much a learner and this just looks so fantastic that I would love to be able to weave such a beautiful item.
I would use method 1 although Iβve never used a heddle rod. It would be good to learn something new!
I’m interested in method 2. Thank you for this opportunity.
2 heddles as i would like to learn this skill
Hi, thanks for the opportunity to have a chance at taking this class for free. I would prefer method 2, based on tool requirements. Love the look of this weave.
I would be happy to learn with the second method.
I am interested in method #3. Really all three, but will use #3 to begin with.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Would like to go with method one. Thank you very much for the opportunity.
I love this Iβve been trying to find a ridged heddle pattern for herringbone. I love trying new things I would like either method 1 or two. I have used heddle rods and pick up sticks before but I donβt have three heddles.
I am interested in method 2
Iβm look at at doing method 2. Iβm actually going to be buying some rods tomorrow π. I havenβt been able to weave since last august and this may be a project to jump into. Thank you Kelly, your classes are amazing!
I would love to try the 3 heddles. I have a 4 heddle block I will have to install.
Method 2 for me since I only have one heddle. I’m a new weaver who can count the number of woven projects on one hand. I definitely need classes, so would love to take this one!
I think i would like to try the two heddle option. But 3 heddles in=s intriqueing
I would like to learn method 2.
Method 2 unless method 1 can be done with the second heddle floating. My loom is a Cricket, so there is no way to add a second heddle block, and a new loom just isn’t in the budget at the moment. Thanks for making your instructions so inclusive!
I’m curious about method 3 – if one of the three reeds has a different dent than the other two, say the one closest the warping beam, might that be OK? The two in front of it would hold the ultimate sett. Otherwise, method 1 is the one I would pursue.
Method 2 with one heddle π
Method 2 please. My rigid heddle loom only allows for one heddle.
I would use method 1 with 2 heddles because I am just learning to use 2 heddles and might not have the patience for to many heddle rods. And I would use my very first handspun yarn if that suitsπ
I would like to enter the giveaway for one of the free spots for the Herringbone on a Rigid Heddle class. I prefer method 2.
Method 2 would be best for me!
I have a double Heddle kit but Iβve never used it so Iβd like to try Method 1.
I would love to learn all the methods. Picking one I would like to learn Method 3 if I can use 2 heddles plus a string heddle for the third heddle (I only have 2 heddle of each size). If that wouldnβt work, then Method 2.
I would be primarily interested in method 2, but find it very interesting to compare other methods to see if I might prefer another one. That would mean buying a second heddle, but it may be worth it.
I would love to do these with method one.
Thank you for the chance to win! Option 2 would be the best for me.
Type One looks fun!
I’m interested in Method 1 Please
Method 2 would be great for me!
I would love to take this class. Methods 1 and 2 would both be fine, I quite like weaving with heddle rods, so Method 2 is probably the preference. Look forward to enrollment opening.
Good morning! Methods 1and 2, I love your classes and videos.
Woohoo, a chance to win a class! I would like either Method 1 or 2. Cheers!!
Method Two would be for me! I have a second heddle but do not know how to use it…
method 1 – using 2 heddles sounds like a blast.
I think that method 1 appeals to me, although I’m interested in learning them all (but not at once).
Method 1
Iβm looking to stretch my little loom to the max! What you have show the weaving community is incredible.
Thanks
Method 1, however if I get a third heddle I’d try method 3.
Method 1 is for me.
Good morning! Method one is best for me. Looking forward to the challenge! Thanks π
Sounds like a great class! I would use method 1 – I like using 2 heddle but have never added a heddle rod successfully, would love to learn π
I don’t know what I’d try. I’ve never even used a pickup stick before, hahaha. Might be a fun thing to try.
Interested to see all, but most interested in Method 2. π
How generous of you to have a giveaway. I woild be interested in method #1.
i would need to use method 2 because I only have one heddle right now. I do have pick up sticks and rods that hopefully I could use. As a new weaver, I haven’t looked into or used heddle rods yet.
Hi Kelly, I would be interested in method 2. I’m interested in learning to combine the different tools.
I would love to try this pattern! I am a new Weaver and I am legally blind. that means my husband has to warp the loom. he would just die if he has to use more than one headle, so I would choose option two. thank you for your fine, easy to follow instructions.
I assume from the way it’s worded each method is it’s own course? Most likely I would currently use method 1, but I’m actually interested in all 3 methods.
I’m interested in method 3! I just got all my equipment to weave with 3 heddles, but haven’t started a project yet. This would be a great first project!
Hi Kelly. Thanks for the chance to win this class. Method one works for me.
I would love to make this using method 1. Thanks for offering the class,
I’d use method 2 because I only have 1 heddle and no local source other than the internet.
Hi Kelly
Method 2 would be what I’m set up for now but would love to take the class again for method 1.Thank you for your classes and enthusiasm
Hello, Kelly. I would be interested in Method 2. I’m a new weaver and just looked up “heddle rod” to find out what that was – how cool! Thank you for all your excellent tutorials and lessons and for the opportunity to win the Herringbone on a Rigid Heddle Loom class!
I would love to learn Method One! Method three would be great but I only have 2 heddle blocks. Tha k you so much!!
Method 1 please!
I just finished your double heddle class so I would be very interested in method 1. Being a new weaver I am excited to learn everything that you have to offer. Thank you for the opportunity to win such a generous giftπ
Hi Kelly,
I would be most interested in Method 3! I love the weave structure and have woven this on the floor loom but curios how to do so on my Ashford Knitters Loom.
I would try method 1. I so enjoyed the Diamond stripe towels, and this seems to be a logical next step. Thank you!
Method two is for me! Iβve been wanting to learn to use pick up rods. This would be a beautiful Christmas gift I could start soon. Iβm still fairly slow at weavingβ¦ thank you for all the great advice, Kelly!
I would be interested in trying Method One. Thank you for the opportunity.
I would lije to try Method1. My loom accommodates 2 heddles, yet I can still learn to use a pick-up stick and a heddle rod. And, I have yet to try herringbone. Ttanks for tge opportunity.
Method One, this is a beautiful design
I would love to learn all three but practically, Method 2. I don’t yet know how to use two heddles on my rigid heddle loom. Thank you for offering this opportunity!!
My preference would be method one. Iβve really been looking forward to this class since your first announcement.
I’d love either of the first two methods, but if I had to choose just one, it would be method 2.
Method 1 is the way I would go. But I would probably also review method 3 because I’m curious to see how that would be managed. Thanks!
I am interested in method twoπ This has been on my bucket list.
I am interested in method one, the two heddle option. I’m really looking forward to the course.
Looks like another great class! I would use method two.
Method 2 as I only have one heddle. Thank you
I would love to learn method 2, this way I donβt have to purchase another heddle π
I would like method 1. Method 3 seems best but I only have 2 heddle blocks.
Method 2. I only have the one heddle.
I would use method 1. This class looks amazing.
Love this design! Method 1 is my preference
I would like to try method 2.
Method 1,if I had 3 identical heddles I would want method 3.
I would prefer method 1. Thank you.
Method 2 is also what I would prefer. Thank you for your continued generosity and sharing of knowledge and inspiration!
I would use the one heddle method, gladly. Unfortunately, when I tried logging into my account I had technical problems.
Method 2 for me.
I have 3 heddles … looking forward to playing with all of them again. Thank you!
~ Karen Borga
I am excited about this opportunity to explore how versatile the rigid heddle can be. Thanks for all your creativity to make this possible. I would like to try option one with two heddles.
Hello Kelly!
I’m most interested in Method 1! I have two 10 dent reeds from your overshot class!
Thanks!
Iβm most interested in method 2. Thank you.
I would be interested in method 3 the most.
Iβm most interested in method 1
I would like to try method 1 first but also method 3 when i add additional heddles
I am so excited to learn how to weave herringbone. I would be interested in learning method number 1.
I learned to weave on a backstrap loom in the Peace Corps many years ago; I then really became a weaver on a 4s/6t floor loom, eventually graduating to an 8s/10t model. Then I moved overseas, and had to stop weaving for years. I eventually returned to my love of weaving on a RHL. It’s been a bit of a rough adjustment to weaving with knitting yarn, without treadles, direct warping, etc., but I’m learning. I recently wove a diamond twill scarf with two heddles and it turned out very well. I’m eager to learn new techniques I can use to do more advanced work, along with simple weaves that feature texture and color. I would be interested in Method 1, even though I don’t yet have a heddle rod, I hope I can make one (I live in a place where ordering online from the U.S. isn’t possible, so I have to improvise!). Thanks very much.
Method two please- how incredible is that pattern, itβs beautiful and looks so fun to weave.π€©π€©π€©
Iβm interested in Method 2.
I would be using Method 2, as I only have 1 10 dent heddle. It it would be great to have threading instructions for the 2 heddle version that I could use with my 8 dent heddles. Looking forward to the class.
Method 2 is the one I prefer. Thank you!
Iβd love to learn all three if I have to choose one Iβll choose number two! Thanks!
I, too, would love all three, but method 1 is what I am prepared for at this point.
Method 2 would be my choice.
I would love all 3 but I think Method 2 because I have everything I need. Thank you so Much
Hi Kelly,
I would like to learn all three techniques as I am a novice weaver.
If I have to choose only 1 technique I would choose number three.
I would be interested in method 1 – although they all sound interesting (and intimidating!). Thanks for the opportunity.
I would be interested in weaving method two. Hope i win but will be purchasing the class either wayβ¦
Herringbone is my favourite pattern and I have been sad not to be able to do it on an RHL. So this class is very exciting for me! For me it would be Method 2. Thank you!
I am most interested right now in method two but would love the try method one at some point. Iβm always interested in learning more.
Iβm stoked to try method three! Just got a three-heddle block for my loom. Do I have a clue how to use it? No. No I do not. But we can solve that issue!
I would prefer method one. The weave i looks very interesting.
Looks like an interesting class. I would like to see option 3 thanks
I have 2 x 10 dent heddles, so Method 1 would be good for me – also would help me improve using 2 heddles, I have no doubt I would try another method another time, Thank you for the chance to win!
I would use method three! I have gone from plain weave, to wanting to make this simple loom sing with any four shaft pattern! I have taken many of your classes and find you to be great at presenting the many ways to learn a task! You also are supportive in the journey.
Probably Method 1
I tried weaving twill with one heddle, a rod, and a pickup stick and found that using multi-heddles will create a bigger shed so there is less risk of making a mistake when wefting.
I am so excited to see this class offered. I love the two heddle method.
I will use Method 1. Thanks for the opportunity to do the the course for free.
I’m excited for this class! I think method one would work best for me
I’m a new weaver so I think method one could be easier for me. However, I’m very, very curious on method 3. Three heddles??? I’m really new to this as I didn’t even know it could be possible! Only you Kelly to guide us “to infinity and beyond” π
Wow, what a fabulous prize! This is so generous of you Kelly! I would prefer Method 2 please, so I wouldn’t have to but another heddle.
Oh, both methods 1 and 2 I think!
I’d like to try method number 1 please as I am still not very confident and I think it would be sensible to start at the begining and then work up to methods 2 & 3. I know the class will be great as I’ve loved the other courses I’ve tried thank you.
Iβd use method 1.
Method 2 for me as I only have one reed. Sounds like a fascinating course. Thanks for the chance to win
Hi Kelly!
I love Herringbone and am trying to switch from my finlandia to my rigid heddle for it. I have 2 heddles so method 1 please!
Method 1 for me,
Method 2
I would be most interested in method 2 mainly because I only have 1 – 10 dent heddle.
HI,
This looks like a great weave and I would be trying method number 3!
Method 2 for me please. Thankyou for this opertunity and also for all your helpful videos.
Hi I have been looking at this pattern for some time now so your class and offer to even win it for free came like a present from a heaven π
As I have 2 heddles myself, the most easy would be for me method 1 but I have been very attracted to understand how it works also only with one heddle. An to actually be able to see the difference between the threading. My head somehow still can’t really get around the differences between threading in each method and still getting the same result π
So anyway, great class to look forward to and I thank you for all your afford you are putting into your classes and videos.
xo Sagari
Method 2 for me. I only have one heddle at the moment. This will be an interesting challenge as I have not used 2 heddle rods before. Looking forward to the task. Thanks Kelly
Oooo Iβve never used a heddle rod before. I would go for method one!
What a great prizeβ£οΈ Method 2 preferred π
Gosh, you are so very generous- always giving!
Method 2 would suit me best, but only if I can use a 7.5 or 12.5 heddle as that is all I have until Kris Kringle comes around again.
If a 10 Dent is essential, then please exclude me from the giveaway. I would hate to deprive someone else who is properly equipped and ready to get stuck in to the project.
I hope you have a blessed day.
I have loved all your classes Kelly, but this is the one I think Iβve been waiting for! Not only do I love herringbone, but I think Iβm going to learn so much more from this class. I will be using method two as I find it physically quite hard work to warp two or three heddles, but canβt ever work out in my head how to adapt patterns to the heddle rod option. This class will help my brain finally βcomputeβ how to adapt other two heddle patterns to method two, so I will learn so much from the other methods too.
This is a big class and must have taken so much work to put together, thank you so much!
I think I’d like to try method 1 as I’m used to working with 2 heddles now after taking other classes here. Thanks for offering this chance!
Iβd be interested in method 3, but would like to try the other methods too please
I would be using method 2. I am a novice weaver interested in learning how to do some more complex patterns and different techniques on the rigid heddle. I have done some basic pick up patterns, a houndstooth scarf, and excited to learn how yo use heddle rods.
I think method 2 but have no clue since im new ..
I think I would prefer method two, because I dont want to have to buy another heddle, although it would good to see the other methods in case I buy another heddke in the future. One question, could I use a second heddle if it was of a different dent?
Suzanne, they need to be the same dent.
Method 2 for me as well please, I think, but I’d also like to have a go at the other methods too.
Method 2 please
I think Method 1 would be easier for me to find equipment for, but Method 2 would be my second chouce. I have a psir for my 7.5 heddle but would be loathe to buy more multiples. Thank you for doing this for us – I love herringbone.
This is a fabulous prize Kelly. My preferred method would be number 2 as I only have the one heddle at the moment
Ooh it looks fab, method 1 for me π€π€π€
Method 1 to reinforce my two heddle learnings
OH this looks lovely and could be great fun Exactly the ‘simple’ pattern I have been looking for.
Since I have only one 10 dent heddle, method 2 for me. Thank you for offering this change to win!
Hello Kelly,
I would like to learn method two π
Method 1 …
I think! But all look interesting!
Method 1 for me!
Thanks for the opportunity to win this.
