It’s hard to believe that 3 years have passed since I began my Online Weaving School. Many of you have been with me for all of that time and longer, but if you’re new here, I’d like to tell you a little about my teaching journey.

I’ve always been a creative person but making things with my hands became more important to me when I found myself an at home Mum with 4 children. The urge to relax and create became very strong and somewhat vital. I needed that quiet, meditative time away from my regular daily duties.
I started with embroidery after my mother in law gifted me with some vintage supplies. Then I got a sewing machine and started sewing clothes for my kids. From there I started making dolls. This began my relationship with Etsy, where I sold my dolls. Then bear making, quilting, knitting, spinning, dyeing and weaving. Many of these were learned books, some from just teaching myself and some (especially knitting) from Youtube. Youtube was just becoming a thing at that time. When I came to weaving, I found it the perfect culmination of so many of the arts and skills I had already been practicing for years. When I found weaving, I felt like I had come home.
After I had been weaving for some time and felt very confident at my rigid heddle loom, I felt that I really wanted to share some of the wonderful things I had learned. I was almost bursting with excitement and passion but I didn’t know any other weavers at all.
So I made a video and uploaded it to Youtube. I didn’t know anything about how to teach or how to use Youtube. My son helped me to film and edit to make the video passable. I expected nothing, I didn’t even think about whether anyone would be interested. I just thought it might help someone and I wanted to share.
As it turns out, that video is still helping weavers, 5 years later! People loved the video and asked for more. I made more. And I loved it. It was so rewarding to know that I could help others and share this passion for weaving.
After a while, my Youtube hobby was starting to cost a lot of money in materials and the meagre income from Youtube ads didn’t even begin to cover the expense. I was a stay at home Mum, homeschooling her children and relying on my husband to earn enough income to keep us fed and clothed.
So, using a Youtube paid channel, I started to (gasp! how could I even dare to!) charge for classes. This was a big mind shift for me. People wanted to pay me in exchange for classes!! I still ran my free channel, but the paid channel was a huge blessing. Now at least I could cover my expenses, even if I still wasn’t really earning anything extra. When the Youtube paid channels ceased to exist, I had a fairly sizeable following of enthusiastic weavers. And they still wanted more! So, I found Teachable and set up my tiny Online Weaving School and community.
3 years later, that “tiny” weaving school has grown to over 4000 registered users and 750 paid memberships and is still growing! I am still pinching myself. Thanks to the constant support from my wonderful and loyal students, I now provide the income for my family of 6. This is something I never would have dreamed could happen and I have learned so much. I would go so far as to say that having my weaving school has transformed me as a person – or perhaps better to say, it has formed me into the person I was meant to be.
Aside from all of the obvious benefits the success of the school has brought me are the less obvious blessings. The beautiful friendships and relationships I’ve encountered with weavers all over the world. The ability to help others not just to learn to weave, but to share other difficult life burdens. It is amazing to be in a position where you feel you can truly make a difference to the lives of others!
If you already know or follow me, then you will be aware of my recent free project, The Wash Your Hands Towels. I designed these towels in the time of uncertainty while the world was suffering from the effects (and still is) of the coronavirus pandemic. This has been a hugely popular project and seemed to come at just the right time for many weavers at home under lockdown. I’ve seen lots of different versions completed in a big variety of colours, it’s been wonderful to see.
So, I thought a very appropriate way to celebrate this 3 year milestone would be to give away a Wash Your Hands Towels Kit. This kit will be a one off, as I don’t have plans to make kits available for sale.
Included in the kit is all the beautiful Australian cotton yarn you need to make two towels plus a paper printed PDF. You use the PDF in conjunction with the video tutorial. If you wish to know what you need to complete this rigid heddle project, read this post that has all the details.

I work full time, therefore, my “me” time is limited. I subscribed to your you tube channel about seven years ago, fell in love with the weaving tutorials, purchased a Samplet loom and started weaving. About a year later I decided I would like to try a floor loom and purchased a used one. I’m still learning on the floor loom when “me” time allows but I do love the rigid heddle mobility and ease of setup. They are great for the smaller projects and to test pattern theories (yes, I’m one of those). I look forward to your newsletters they are awe inspiring and comforting. Take care and stay safe :).

I’ve been weaving for a year and so far have been made only scarves I have my first ever wash your hand towels on the loom. One is done and #2 is half finished. I’m using Kelly’s pattern. I’m using Sugar n Cream and am skeptical about how they are going to look. I’m still confused about cottons and yarns. I only use Red Heart , Caron etc., nothing expensive. All I know about weaving I got from your videos. I would love to win your kit and know I’m weaving something with the correct yarn

I’ve been following you for over a year now. I started out with an Ashford 32″ rigid heddle loom after watching you ‘Wish List” video, and have fallen in love with weaving. When the ‘Wash your Hands’ video came out, I got bitten by the bug to go and weave up a few hand towels.
Well, the past week I went to an estate pre-sale and purchased a 36″ 4 shaft and 4 treadle (direct tie) Harrisville Designs floor loom. It was purchased new in May of 1977. It had only been used Once for a college course and then placed in the attic. I am currently cleaning and oiling the wooden parts and sanding the metal to remove the small amount of rust, and replacing the harnesses and lams, because o dry rot. My point is I have never woven on a floor loom, but I have watched you with yours. I love you teaching style and you were the first person I went looking to for instruction. Once I have the loom up and running I plan on purchasing the online classes you have. I am wondering if you are planning on making any more floor loom videos in the future?

Hello Kelly! I would absolutely love to win your “Wash your hands towels kit” because you have taught me almost everything I know about weaving through your YouTube Channel. My weaving journey began once a couple years ago when I had the opportunity to use a huge vintage rigid heddle loom for one day in Vermont to make fabric to donate to a local shelter to help those during the cold months. Since then I have always loved the idea of making my own fabrics but was clueless where to begin (being 28 years old in Northern Virginia- I have not met many weavers) and I acquired my first rigid heddle loom this past December. I almost gave up with right after assembly of my loom with feeling overwhelmed and clueless with what seemed like a foreign language of terminology. I rented books from my local library and thought I was understanding but I had so many questions that books could not answer. So one day I went to a local mom and pop yarn store nearby for any advice and she wrote your name down on a sticky note and told me to check out your YouTube channel. You changed my whole mindset of weaving and truly inspired me to not give up with your teaching, amazing explanations, and personal stories you share. My first project ever completed was your Log Cabin Table Runner PDF/Video instructions (which I was so nervous as my first project) and it came out absolutely perfect all thanks to you! You have given me a great hobby to relieve stress after a busy workday (in the medical field) and I truly appreciate everything you have shared.

Wow! These look amazing! I have only just recently started weaving and teatowels are on my to-do list. You can only make so many scarves/wraps in a plain weave!! I purchased a couple of patterns and am very keen to try them out.

I would love to get your wash your hands towel kit, I have not had time to do very much weaving, but I do love it. I used to use an inkle loom all the time to make bands and sashes for friends. And some time sell them. I am much older now 72, and have been a cancer survivor for 19 years. The last 7 years I have been stage 4 with bone cancer, but thankful to a faithful Father that I am still going strong and the oral chemo has worked well for me. Every day is a new and glorious one. I would like to make some things to put in a chest for my sons and their wives that could be a special unexpected surprise. Love your videos, you are a joy to watch. I picked up my first shuttle at the tender age of ten ~ fifty-eight years ago! I’ve had 5 children, homeschooled 3 of them, ran a home based knitting business, was a Brownie Scout Troop leader, a weekly newspaper columnist, avid gardener and landscaper…But! I did not have the courage or stamina to do what you have done: learn how to navigate the Web and teach weaving to so many students, thus keeping this ancient art alive for generations to come.

My way with weaving started at kids art school, more than 15 years ago – at that time I tried weaving on a frame. I had really enjoyed it, but could not really afford a whole loom or so.
Only about two weeks ago my friend showed me rigid heddle loom, so I rushed to get it, since this is a wonderful and rather affordable tool.
For these two weeks I’ve been researching a lot and weaving a lot and just as everyone else has been saying, your videos are an immense help for new weavers (and I’m sure also for experienced weavers), I really love those!
I really love weaving things that I can use, so towels are on my to do list!
Recently I have moved to a new country, so I have to start my crafts stash all new, which can be quite expensive. Also I’m waiting for my employment permit, so for the next 6 months or so I will have to stay at home and doing crafts is the best way to feel useful and active.
I love seeing the community of weavers that you have gathered, it kind of inspires me, maybe some day I could have such a nice community of my own.

Hello Kelly! I am a brand new weaver, and so far, everything I know I have learned from your videos. I’m a single mom of three, a full-time graduate student, a research assistant and a transcriptionist, so as you can imagine, free time is in short supply, especially in this time of homeschooling and social distancing. The free time I do have , I spend with my 32” Ashford rigid heddle loom, and it is exactly the relaxing, zen-like activity I need to unwind. I love it! Why would I like to win. Several reasons. I’m still new to RH weaving and a kit just makes things easier. Your designs are great, some of the best I have seen. As a stay-at-home, self-employed grantwriter who has made millions for wonderful charities over the past 40 years, I managed to make enough to buy a small house! I am inspired by hearing your own journey to self-sufficiency and finding your niche. If all goes well, I plan to “retire” at the end of the year, but hope to maintain a small income stream to supplement my social security (and keep my mind busy). I am so glad I found you and have learned so much. I absolutely love your blog, videos, classes,projects and emails. I’ve made four of the towels and number 5 and 6 are on the RHL now. My favorite one is the pickup pattern that I’ve used varigated for the warp in a bright color way and black as the weft which makes the colors pop. I am new to weaving. About 11 years ago, I visited my daughter and we went to the Taos Wool Festival with a group of her friends. I was so intrigued by the spinning and weaving demonstrations I saw. I bought a book about weaving and resolved that when I retired and had the time that I would try my hand at weaving. Well, I have been retired a number of years now and the time seemed right this past winter. Luckily I bought a loom before the pandemic started and have been learning to weave by reading books and especially watching Kelly Casanova’s you tube videos. They say that to keep your mind working the way it should, you should try to learn a new skill and although at times I have been so confused, I have also had the satisfaction of an “ah hah” moment when it all made sense. Weaving has helped me center my mind during times of anxiety before the pandemic. The methodical warping motion. Watching fabric appear as I start throwing the shuttle. As a new weaver, I’m loving what I learn from your videos.
I attempted to weave a tea towel as a first project on my own. It went badly wrong and I was so traumatised by my loom that I couldn’t face it for a long time.
Near the end of lockdown I had a go at a small scarf for my daughter. Yay!
Now I still have to face a smaller dent tea towel project. Your tea towel set, along with your very good guiding video would be the perfect encouragement to have another go.

New weaver here – thank you for all your help. I recently started a project using beautiful but totally unsuitable yarn as warp, if it wasn’t for your YouTube help, I would have abandoned it as I had 20+ broken wrap threads!
Ended up with multiple warp and weft ‘floats’ but as the shawl is for me, I’ve left them as a design feature!

Hi Kelly, your beginning journey sounds allot like mine. I crocheted but never mastered knitting. I can no longer crochet, embroider or manage many of the crafts I once enjoyed because of arthritis effecting my hands so bad. I tried the inkle loom and it was doable. I was thrilled. I then bought a 15” loom and I’ve been trying to master it. I watch YouTube videos and have made 2long scarves. I want to learn this skill. I don’t understand all the things about weaving yet but learning. I’m 68 years young and still love crafting . Weaving Your Wash my Hands towels would be a blessing in learning. Last winter I decided I needed a hobby for the long winter evenings. I have been curious about weaving for some time and in a search I discovered your YouTube videos. Your clear descriptions and calm manner immediately spoke to me. I started with a children’s loom and played with making a few samplers. This year as Covid was keeping us at home I took the plunge and purchased a Rigid Heddle loom and now I am learning about tension and keeping my edges straight through your online beginners course. I’m also a mom-at-home , homeschooling my 4 children and running a small home-made business with an Etsy shop (I do natural cosmetics and soaps – AlmaSoap is our name).
And mostly- I’m also a huge fan of all ancient women’s craft such as knitting, embroidery, weaving, sewing etc…

Congratulations on 3 yrs going! I have had my rigid heddle loom for about that long, but I’ve only made a few things. I always get stalled on starting a new project when it comes time to thread a new warp! I am happy to have your emails to give me some inspiration and a reminder not to let the loom just sit there! Hand towels seem like a lovely project to get busy weaving again!

Kelly. Congratulations on 3 years! I love your videos. I joined your school in November and then moved in December. I’ve started watching the classes, but have not started weaving again. Silly me. I’ve also done many crafts, but when I tried weaving I was hooked. It really helped with stress..
I live on the east coast of the USA, in the small New England state of Connecticut . It’s May 20th and today our state is easing some lockdown restrictions, We’re into our 9th week of lockdown, but the weather is getting better as we are heading towards summer (not much spring). We still have to wear masks to go places in public and social distance.
I would love to try these towels. I’ve been weaving off and on for about 15 years, but I’ve never made towels. Shawls and scarves mostly, but I want to branch out. There aren’t many rigid heddle weavers around me so it’s great to be in the company of your members.

I started as a knitter over 50 years ago. About 12 years ago I bought my first spinning wheel. Eight years ago I was gifted with my first loom. While I am an avid knitter and spinner, I tend to neglect my looms (a 4-shaft tabletop, a Cricket, a tapestry, and an inkle loom). Thank you for providing the inspiration to do more weaving!

I am like many others, into fiber of all sorts: machine knit, CSM, spin (slightly) dye, sewing for almost 60 years..but I always resisted that loom. Too many odd words, vast contraptions with large pieces going back and forth. Well, I had so much yarn I knew I couldn’t knit with it all…so I thought, why not a little Cricket 15 inch RH.???? Well, why not ! Right after that a friend was getting rid of a 32 in RH with a stand and I thought, too good a deal to pass on. I was lucky enough to find you through a Ravelry connection…and someday I am going to be brave enough to warp both of them. My first planned projects are going to be towels ….so the giveaway would be a great start. And the cotton looks dreamy! Thanks for being out there for all of us.

With all this time on my hands recently (but no space for my new-to-me floor loom) I purchased an Ashford 24″ rigid heddle loom after seeing you use yours. You have taught me so much already! I started weaving in November of last year. Since then, it has become a place for me to relax in the rhythm of the beater bar, and to watch with a bit of fear and a lot of fascination as the pattern appears before my eyes. I am learning so much with your videos. I now have homemade pickup sticks and have learned how to read the pattern to use them. My work is becoming more detailed and the selvedges so much nicer thanks to your tips. I am no longer afraid to change color or tie in loose ends. This is why I would like to win a towel package. I have sewn, embroidered, knitted and crocheted for many years (taught by dear influential women at a very young age). I’ve been spinning for about 3 years now. I am a very new weaver, with just one project that I had to un-weave because I totally miscalculated the amount of weft I needed to complete it. Now I am struggling to start another project but can’t seem to find the right fiber in my stash (which is pretty big) and get colors to work together. My LYT is currently not available for hands-on or even live viewing of my questions. I would really enjoy having a kit to guide me and get me started on this new adventure. The towels are beautiful!

I would love to win the kit. When I started weaving, I hated cotton. It was very unforgiving. I’ve pushed through and I think its ok now. I’m currently working on some dish towels.
I probably wouldn’t spend a long enough amount of time actually washing & scrubbing my hands during this pandemic since I would be rushing to touch the beautiful towels while drying my hands! My resistance is low to feeling fibers. 😋

I also have always been a crafty person; first learning to crochet granny squares when I was around 6yrs old growing up in the south west of West Australia.
Over the years I then learnt to knit, embroider whether cotton or silk ribbon, sew and of course cook – it’s all creative.
Then life got in the way so to speak and I didn’t really do any crafting until I picked up the hook again around 18mths when a Facebook post caught my interest for a CAL.
Then I was off and racing – YouTube was a great support combined with all the face book groups out there. One of the fb groups I am part of (#yarnishcommunity) recently had a member start posting weaving… OMG so beautiful – I was hooked!
I started asking questions and surfing YouTube for information and then one member suggested searching #kellycasanova weaving – well I watched some of your videos and I was sold – hook, line and sinker!
I have just ordered a 70cm Ashford knitters loom and am now stalking the postman for delivery … one of my first things I want to try is your amazing tea towels (then I want to crochet top them as gifts) – … looking forward to joining your classes as a member once my loom arrives…

I’m completely new here and waiting for a loom. I’ve always wanted to be creative but struggled with outlets. I started with knitting but struggled with my hands. I tried sewing but similar issues. I’ve done photography but the current virus has limited my ability to do this how I normally do.
I have connective tissue disease that has caused early arthritis and joints coming in and out. This has been awful for knitting and I can only manage small projects. My body has made me feel pushed against the wall in being creative- it can only do so much.
I got into the idea of weaving because we use handwoven textiles to carry our children. All of this has me getting a floor loom.
I need somewhere to start when it arrives and this would be perfect! I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the information and now, having no access to classes with covid, will need to teach myself. This set would be an incredible way to start. Even if not, I’m signing up for classes soon.

This was before I had ever woven on a rigid heddle loom (in fact I don’t think I’d even heard of rigid heddle looms at that point)! But I clicked on the video and as I listened to you and watched you, the calming rhythm of the weaving was something I knew I wanted to do in my life. Now I’m in the middle of self isolating for three months I am so grateful to be able to weave in the garden on fine days and in my conservatory on the wet ones, it is a real blessing to me and it’s all thanks to you and your lessons. Hi Kelly, Congratulations on 3 years!! That is awesome. I am a relatively new weaver and have only done plain weave so far. I have watched several of your videos (several times each..lol) and learn something new each time. I would love to have the towels kit because I love to craft, especially weaving and crocheting. I tell my friends and family that all my crafting equipment and gadgets are my toys, because I really do think of them that way. I love to experiment with them and play until I make something new that looks pretty and makes someone else happy. I love to give what I have made to welcome new couples to married life, new babies to the world, and new friends to town, besides giving lots of unique blankets to homeless people and to church-going needy friends. Oh my gosh, Kelly. This would be an amazing prize to win. I have learned so much since joining your weaving school. I am not doing things perfectly, but I am sure having fun trying. Then I had a very hard Christmas and earlier part of the year caring for my mom as she died from pancreatic cancer. Quickly followed by this covid crisis. I have not been able to weave. Kelly I couldn’t be happier with all I have learned and will learn about Ridged Heddle weaving. I’m getting ready to retire and have as you have worked in many forms of creating things. Embroidery. Knitting, crocheting. Sewing kids clothes for my 4 children years ago. I love weaving for my family and friends. I would love to make the wash your hand towels in your colors for a special friend of mine. I made a set with heavier cotton I had at home. They are nice but can’t wait to get to a store to pick out fiber again in the future.

I’m so glad you are teaching weaving online. I took a Krokbragd class weaving a sampler on my rigid heddle loom. It fascinated me. When I got a second heddle, the book I have didn’t explain how to warp very well. Got a nice pattern but it was on the bottom of the weaving, so I couldn’t see it. The teacher I had hadn’t thought about how to use a double heddle and couldn’t explain it well to me. I found your class and I’ve started a Krokbragd bag. Love the clear teaching you give! This won’t be the only class I take from you! Thank you for the help. I’m loving weaving and it’s great to have a teacher like you there for me! I retire next April and plan lots of weaving. I’d love to win the kit because I would love these towels. We are washing hands constantly and to have these towels would make me feel so happy – to know I made them myself and to have such luxury. I come from a family of crafters. My grandmother amd my mother have always been knitters, quilters, crocheters and my Mom used to sew and knit clothes for my brothers and me when we were kids. I have always been sourrounded by fibers and textiles and people who knew how to transform them into anythimg useful or beautiful (usually both).
My mom used to weave on a huge 8 shaft floor loom that her brother had built for her from scratch. Though I have never seen her weave (she didn’t use it much when she had us, 4 children and not much space…) I was fascinated with that machine as a kid.
Unfortunately she had to give it away as the wood was getting bad being stored away for so long in the garage.
I used to quilt and crochee as a teenager, then school and studies and work became more important for me and I thought I didn’t have time for creation.
When I myself had my first child 16 months ago, I remembered how important that crafting heritage was to me and I realised that I too wanted to give thar love of crafts to my children.
Si I remembered my mom’s old loom and talked to her about it. She dug up her weaving notebooks from when she was young and showed them to me. That is how, a couple months qgo, as the lockdown started in my country (I am from France), I asked my husband to build a small tablet weaving loom and the weaving tablets, and started weaving some bands. I absolutely fell in love with weavind at that moment. I love working with fibers, on beautiful instruments made of wood.
I very quickly wanted to move on to the next level and was absolutely thrilled when I discovered what a rigid heddle loom was, and that a smaller, beginner-freindly kind of loom actually existed.
Unfortunately in France, rigid heddle looms are not very popular. I live in the countryside and there are no weaving guilds around me. None of my friends are fiber crafters and, being around 35 like me, most of them regard knitting and weaving as a “granny activity”.
I had no one close by to ask for advice on weaving, so I turned to online ressources. That is when I stulbled on your youtube channel.
Thanks to your videos, I realised that a rigid heddle loom was much more than an “easy to use beginner’s loom”.
Thanks to your calm, patient and detailed way of explaining in your lessons, I decided, three weeks ago, to get my own loom and create.
Today when I read your email about your giveaway, I was thrilled. Even though my loom hasn’t arrived yet (lockdown delays, and a long shipment from Ashford NZ to my small french town!), I cannot wait to start weaving.
And right as I began writing this, I received an email to inforl me rhat my loom would be delivered tomorrow! Chance or fate?

You are my inspiration! Read all your emails, and itching to begin weaving again, I have a RHL but, unfortunately, it is not with me. Left the US in November expecting to return in March but because of COVID and border and airport closings, still waiting to return to weaving. Thank you so much for everything you do both for free through YouTube (love those) and through your school. I started crocheting when I was very young, stopped creating while in college, then picked it up again when kids came into the picture. After kids, though, I moved to sewing clothes and to hand quilting (relaxation being the goal here). From there I moved to designing and sewing my own clothes (I’m short, it was a necessity before Petite size became regularly available). After that I moved to knitting. After eight years of knitting, I became a bit bored with it. COVID-19 hit,, I was stuck at home, and I knew I needed something new and challenging as an outlet for my creativity. The YouTube push feature put a floor loom video in my suggested video list, and for some reason I watched it. I was so intrigued with the play of fibers, patterns, colors, and the meditative process that I started to watch the other suggested weaving videos. I was super intrigued, but I knew I had to start out basic. Except for maybe Kindergarten with paper, I had never woven anything. That’s when I decided to start with a rigid heddle. That was three months ago now, and I am totally hooked. I have a Schacht 25″ Flip with stand, and have already started collecting accessories … and yarn. Just what I need, more yarn! 😉 I’ve completed a couple of dozen projects: some came out pretty primitive and some came out really nice showing my improved understanding and improving technique.
Your YouTube videos have been, and now your “WOE to Go” class, is extremely helpful. I just can’t wait to move to the next project, next class, next yarn …
Congratulations Kelly on your 3rd Anniversary. I so enjoyed your story of how you became a weaver. I bought a maple table top loom 30 years ago and it remained in the box as I had no idea how to warp it or even were to get warp and I had no computer, It went with me when I moved to another state eighteen and then back here five years ago. It is still in the box. However, I volunteer in a thrift store here and the manager was a Christian weaver. Another lady who weaved cloth gave the store a room full of looms, yarns,warp, spinning wheels and misc supplies so we made a fiber arts room. I was able to make my first rugs on one of the Union 36 looms and there I got hooked. I have since bought my own Union 36 loom and several small table top or lap looms. I absolutely love doing the weaving. It is so relaxing and brings great sense of accomplishment. Sad to say, that my maple loom is still in the box. I will need to get it out and give it a try. I am a brand-new Weaver. A dear friend inspired me to start. The plan was originally for her to give me lessons. Because of the need for social distancing, we were not able to spend time together. As a newbie to weaving, I trawled YT watching every video I could find. I then stumbled on your ‘Wash your hands towel’ video and was totally inspired. I am all about colour, and the colours you used for these just grabbed me. So much so, that ever since I have been trying to find the same colourway, so winning this giveaway would be the icing on the cake!
I inherited my grandmother’s weaving gear from my Dad. I know they enjoyed weaving but neither had a chance to do much of it. First of all I’d just like today that I am so grateful for all your videos and posts. Yours were the first (and best) videos I stumbled across when mooching around YouTube for ideas a few years ago. You made it all look so easy and, being a crafter from the age of 8 (I’m 54 now) your videos really aroused my interest. I bought a child’s toy loom and made a scarf. I wanted more so I bought an Ashford SampleIt 10” as that was all I could afford. Using your videos encouraged me to try many different things and I fell in love with weaving. The way you teach is calm and detailed so that literally anyone can do it.

And months later, a dear retired woodworker in our community helped me to build a second loom myself! It would be a joy to christen my self made loom

I’ve not long started weaving. I have a 63 year old spears size 4 loom (16 inch weaving area) which I got 6 weeks ago. Started watching weaving vids on YouTube to help me start.
I found the spears loom limiting as the warp was a fixed type (slots in the rollers). So I’m just waiting on my Ashford 10 inch sampleit loom to arrive so I can weave properly.
Love your videos as they explain things clearly and easily. Only found them this week.

I love this story! I only got into weaving recently as my grandmother was going to get rid of a loom and asked if I wanted it. I’m a humanitarian so rarely at home and currently living in South Sudan, but decided to say yes! On my next vacation from work, I signed up for an intensive weaving course in Spain and bought a rigid heddle loom that I could take apart so I could take it back to South Sudan with me. I’ve been weaving every weekend since the lockdown began as a way to stay healthy and be able to relax from work. I’m just loving it. My partner can attest to my late night youtube watching in order to fix my edges or learn how to hem stitch. Your videos have been a lifesaver! At the risk of playing a sympathy card, which I truly do not intend to do but Kelly I have learned you are a very attentive listener and I need a shoulder to cry on – I would like to win your “Wash Your Hands” towel kit because my soul is weary and I desperately need a ray of sunshine. As a nurse, I go to work each day and check our COVID stats board to see how many patients we are caring for and sadly, how many have we lost! Then I go home to my six little feline furbabies (all of whom were either feral or abandoned until they stole my heart and joined the family). They, and my prayer life, are the affection that keeps me going in these challenging times. I miss time with my only child who, just a year ago (on Earth Day) gave me my only grandchild. They want to come and see me but, due to my job in the hospital, I refuse to be near them. Thank you Lord for GoogleMe so I could watch my grandson enjoy his first birthday cake from a safe distance :-)…Sorry to wax on but it felt good to get that off my chest! I want to be able to be able to actually enjoy weaving rather than feeling that it is an arduous task that requires tons of planning & difficult setup. I would also like to gain a better understanding of how my choice of yarn colors and size would work with various weave patterns.
My mom first learned to weave in high school in the 1950s. She always wanted to get a loom of her own, it just never happened for her. So my sister and I got her an Ashford rigid heddle loom for Christmas last year. Obviously it’s been a good long while since she’s had a weaving project, so I’m helping her find resources to help her get going again, which is how I found you 🙂 Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping my mom and I learn (and relearn) how to weave together!

Well, I’ve been weaving for about 10 years and have made many, many scarves on my rigid heddle looms. I’ve since tried my hand at tapesty and bandweaving and bought a floor loom a couple of years ago. But during this Covid thing, I have found it hard to get any projects going. I don’t think it’s hopelessness, but I feel at loose ends with myself. So, I took up sewing facemasks to give away to the local medical community. Looks like I will have made about 200 of them by the time I finish my current batch. I think winning your towel kit might be just the ticket for me to get excited about weaving again. Late at night, I go to youtube and watch videos – there’s always a batch there that youtube has picked out for me. That’s when I ran across one of your videos a couple of nights ago. You do have a calm measured approach as others have mentioned, qualities that any teacher needs. But I just filed the information on the back burner of my brain and went to sew a few more masks. Sadly all three of my looms are bare as not so sadly I just finished working on a project on my two main looms. I need a new project and this sounds like just the thing for my main rigid heddle loom!

These are great towels. As soon as I finish up the project currently on my loom I’m going to start these. The colors really remind me of those old 3D pictures you had to look at with the glasses (which was always hard since I’m partially colorblind lol)

The give-away is a fun way to celebrate. I received my 25” Schacht loom 1 1/2 years ago for Christmas. I found you on YouTube shortly after that as I started trying to learn what I was doing. I found your instruction thorough and encouraging and your voice calm. I have written a couple of times with questions and appreciate your responses. I subscribed to your school for 1 year, took this year off while my teen had surgery and applied to colleges (along with all the financial paperwork parents have to do). Win or lose, I will be back in the fall. There is still so much to learn! I would love to get to try the lovely Australian yarn you are offering. On the other hand, I have created a stash of yarn to make Christmas gifts this year trying to help keep my favorite little yarn shop in the US going through the shut downs. If any of your followers are struggling to have supplies during this time, they need it worse than I. Weaving calms and soothes my soul – and hopefully does for many others. I’d love to try my hand at weaving a set of towels. For those who think that the RH Looms are toys, I say explore its portability, affordability and versatility before you pass judgement! I decided I wanted to learn to weave a few months ago, so I started to watch weaving videos, ordered a 15” Cricket loom, dug out my knitting yarn stash, bought more yarn (of course), and raced into the rabbit hole into a new obsession. It wasn’t long before I wanted a bigger loom, so I ordered an Ashford 24” rigid heddle loom, fortunately before the pandemic shut the world down.
I have watched many videos, but find yours to be the most understandable and helpful. I love the Wash Your Hands towels, the Moroccan Dream scarf, your waffle weave instructions, and on and on. Im venturing into wearables beyond scarves, with fails and successes, but each is a learning experience. Thank you for your lessons and your encouragement to all of us.
I would very much like to get this kit because I am a beginning weaver, and at the moment weaving is what keeps me afloat. My work for this summer was canceled and I haven’t been able to so much as video call my friends in months, so weaving is what I do to feel productive and meaningful. I’ve been making scarves and simple projects for friends and family who are particularly down in the dumps and who could use a pick-me-up in package form. My mom really wants me to make her some dish towels, so this would be a perfect opportunity to help her out and keep my hands and brain busy.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR JOURNEY KELLY. We all have a journey that we travel, some longer and more winding than others, but still as important non the less. I took early retirement from work 5 years ago from a job I worked in for over 33 years in the english prison service. I decided it was time now to have some ME time. So… I upped sticks and moved to my own little farm in France and I have never been happier. I have all my dogs and my sheep and I love my life. I bought a spinning wheel to be able to use my own fleece and I bought my very first loom. A short while ago. We always continue to learn no matter what we do in life and that is the best part. I have learned so much from your videos and classes I have taken and will continue to do so. So many inspirational people around the world willing to share their knowledge good or bad. In france weaving yarns are either non exsistent or incredibly expensive, but I have finally managed to source an amazing place in England who are helpful beyond belief. Here is to us all on our individual journeys and good luck everyone. But don’t forget to all take time time out for yourselves to reflect and recharge your batteries. I only made four pieces so far because I also got acquainted with spinning and really love it. My goal is to spin my own yarn, weave and/or knit it and make my own wardrobe. I started weaving last fall and quickly found your school. Signing up was one of the smartest things I’ve done. What I particularly like is that your videos are short and easily watched in little chunks of time and that I can go back and watch the videos over and over until I’ve got my confidence up. I didn’t have a lot of time for weaving but enjoyed what I could. Now I’ve been furloughed, but I’m also taking care of my 92-year-old mother in the last stages of cancer. But I loved the videos and my weaving skills, especially my edges, improved. From monthly, I moved on to an annual membership. I’m really grateful you offered the special. It was just the nudge I needed. I think the kit is a great way to encourage new weavers to tackle a bit more advanced project. I moved recently from Georgia, USA where there were spinning, knitting and weaving guilds to the eastern part of the State of Washington where fiber guilds are not as common. Congratulations on your anniversary. I started weaving less than a year ago. Life was getting complicated: mom being unexpectedly hospitalized then sent to physical rehabilitation, my being laid off my job of 8 years all within weeks of each other. I decided to take those lemons and made lemonade! I thought one day while sitting with Mom, at the rehab hospital, that being idle was not making her better and heck it is summer why not learn a new craft? I got her crochet hooks to build her dexterity but I can’t remember how weaving came to mind. Anyhow, I went to YouTube to find out what “it” was all about. I think I even called it “looming” haha. Your video was somewhere among those that came up. I think it was the neat edges video. I watched a few more of your videos, jumped online and ordered an Ashford RH loom that you’d mentioned in a video. I even got a table loom when you started the course for table loom. Love it! Since then, you have been my primary source of RH weaving lessons. Thank you! You definitely have found your calling. I wish you many more years of success and happiness.
I deeply appreciate your free videos on YouTube! My first project might still be languishing on my rigid heddle loom if I hadn’t found your clear video of hemstitching! As a newbie to weaving your “Wash Your Hands” towel project came at the perfect time. I had already warped 17 feet of CotLin in three colors in response to running out of paper serviettes. All your tips resulted in much smoother selvedges and less scary finishing.

I am a knitter by nature but have not been able to knit due to a sprained finger. I had owned a 16” RHL & had done very basic weaving with it. Since the pandemic I now have a 32” RHL & because of your videos & classes I have been able to learn new techniques & patterns. It has been my saving grace. Thank you for all your hard work putting together fabulous classes and videos.

Good Morning Kelly, from Iowa… USA!! Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary of your school. I enjoyed reading your post today on your path to this point in your chosen career! You are to be commended and also your supportive family! I would love to win the towel kit to make some beautiful towels for elderly friends who now live in an assisted living community building. Life has been changed for this couple (and for all, indeed) who cannot be with their family to celebrate birthdays, Spring holidays, a wedding anniversary coming up. If I were to win, I would make this set of towels for them to use in their confinement and remember with each use that they are loved and cared about. I love your weaving school on Teachable. I’ve been a little to busy in recent months to take any classes, but I’ll get back to it. I’m a knitter, and my stash it made, primarily, of wool. I am not writing to win, but to congratulate you on all you do. I work in the health system, but weaving and knitting are hobbies that help me to relax and get away from it all. Your e-mails are the few positive messages I receive during this corona virus crisis. Although I have not been able to do any weaving because I am working full time and need something mindless like simple knitting at this time, I love to weave and cannot wait to get back to it. I am planning one of your first projects, a bag that I wanted to make for a trip to the ocean in Greece. (cancelled of course) I bought my rigid heddle loom a few years ago after I saw your posts on Youtube. I made quite a few scarves for gifts, and I have lots of ideas to do more projects. I am a bit slow, however, and need to concentrate a lot on new projects.

I’m a brand new weaver, recommended to your tutorials by many many people. They have been invaluable to me in beginning my weaving journey! Your gentle and deliberate Teaching style has been easy to follow, and your comprehensive beginner videos gave me the knowledge and confidence to jump in, warp my loom (mostly by myself) and start weaving my first project. I’m looking forward to growing my skills and sharing some of my creations.

Kelly I love doing your online classes. It’s been a God-send for me to be able to do things in my own time as I’m able to. I’ve learnt heaps, and given I have more difficulty these days remembering and absorbing things on one hit it’s good to be able to revisit whenever I need a refresher. There is so many classes to choose from now the biggest problem is prioritising what to learn next as I want to do it all:-)
I’ve recently purchased a wider loom so I can do wider projects and also an Inklelet loom which I’m dying to try.
I’d love to win the giveaway as it’s one on my to-do list but as you’ve only got one to give I wouldn’t be disappointed if it went to someone in need. Some are doing it tough. Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary! Your information has been very valuable to me. I have hope again! I can’t spin, knit, or crochet, but I love fiber for its color and texture. I recently saw someone use a Heddle loom at a local Maine farmers market and I was fascinated! Maybe I can do this! We have 3 alpacas and have brought their fleeces to a local fiber mill to be woven into yarn. A Heddle loom seems like the perfect way to turn our yarn into something beautiful. I love rustic and primitive looks and am excited to get started. My Heddle loom has been ordered and I’m counting the days until it arrives!
